Four Ways To Love Your Skin

Advanced Dermatology, PC Blog Four Ways To Love Your Skin

Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be complicated. Sure, there are lotions, serums, and procedures that help, but good skincare starts with a few basics that anyone can perfect. If you’re looking for simple ways to show your skin a little love, here’s the solution in four easy steps.

Use Sunscreen

Sunscreen is important all the time, not just in the summer! Even when the weather reaches cooler temperatures, damaging UV rays can still prematurely age your skin. That’s why we recommend your everyday skincare routine include sunscreen of at least SPF 30. You can add it right after you moisturize. Some facial moisturizers even come with SPF built-in, making it easy to keep your skin safe and happy. Need a suggestion? Exfoliate

If your skin is looking a little dull, you may want to try a gentle exfoliating cleanser to remove any excess skin cells that your body naturally sheds over time. When they build up, they can keep your skin from its natural glow. Just a note, though: don’t exfoliate too often. You could end up with red, irritated skin. Start with exfoliating once a week, and increase the frequency if you feel like you need it.

Get some sleep

After the last year, we’ve all experienced a lot of stress, and one of the side effects of that stress can be sleeplessness. Lack of sleep can cause a lack of blood flow to the skin (that’s what accentuates those dark circles under your eyes when you haven’t slept!) and can put more stress on your skin. Try heading to bed an hour early, and if you’re having trouble getting to sleep, consider a bedtime routine. An effective bedtime routine might consist of shutting off your screens an hour before bedtime and reading a book instead, or making a warm cup of relaxing tea to get you in the mood for bedtime.

Drink water

The best thing you can do for your skin – and the rest of your body! – is drink water. While drinking water won’t immediately improve your skin’s appearance, developing a steady water habit can provide your skin with proper blood flow to keep you glowing! Keeping a water bottle you love with you when you go out and getting just an extra bottle or two in a day can ensure you get the hydration you need.

We know you’re busy, and taking care of your skin is important to you. That’s why we want to encourage you to build a foundation of solid skincare basics. Taking a few moments to prioritize yourself and your skincare each day can make a world of difference in the long run.
