Liposonix is a new ultrasound treatment to remove localized areas of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise. This treatment aims to trim your waistline by reducing fat in the love handles, waist, and abdomen. Unlike many other fat reduction procedures, Liposonix is a minimally-invasive treatment, allowing most patients to immediately resume regular activities.
Liposonix uses high-intensity focused ultrasound energy. As a result, it is able to break through the skin and permanently eliminate subcutaneous fat without damaging the surrounding skin or tissue. The Liposonix system can be custom-tailored to address your specific problem areas. One hour of treatment is usually sufficient to produce visible results.
In addition to Liposonix, other options exist for nonsurgical fat reduction; these options include Zerona and Zeltiq. Zerona uses lasers to remove fat from fat cells while leaving the fat cells behind, allowing the fat to return later. Zeltiq freezes fat cells but usually requires multiple treatment sessions for best results. Liposonix permanently eliminates fat and can produce noticeable results after just one session.
Immediately before Liposonix, a surgical pen is used to mark the areas to be treated. During treatment, the device is moved around the treatment area. You may feel slight discomfort in the form of cold, warm, tingling, or prickling sensations. Notify your physician if you are experiencing any discomfort, as they may be able to adjust the intensity of the ultrasound. The typical Liposonix treatment lasts around an hour and is administered at your physician’s office.
After Liposonix, you may experience mild pain, swelling, redness, or bruising, although these usually subside quickly. Within 3 months following treatment, your body eliminates the destroyed fat tissue, leaving you with a slimmer waistline. After just one hour of Liposonix, most patients see a reduction of an inch in their waistline, which translates to a reduction of one pant or dress size.
To find out if Liposonix is right for you, please call to schedule a consultation with one of our cosmetic surgeons.
You may be a candidate for Liposonix if you are close to your desired body weight, with fat around the waist that persists after diet and exercise. You should also be in good health, have a body mass index no greater than 30, and be able to pinch an inch of fat on the area to be treated. Your medical history will be reviewed before undergoing treatment, as certain medications and conditions may exclude individuals from Liposonix candidacy. You must have realistic expectations about the results, so discuss all concerns and expectations with your physician beforehand.
