What is Restylane?

Have you watched yourself age year after year? Have you noticed your skin start to sag, and the appearance of wrinkles, folds, and crows feet start to form? Well that all can be helped with Restylane. Restylane is the first cosmetic injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in your body.An injection of Restylane fills in and provides added immediate volume and fullness to your skin, especially in the areas that have succumbed to aging. With Restylane you can reclaim your skin of yesteryears and smile without deep wrinkles framing your face. Our Doctors at our Long Island, NY, Bergen County, NJ and Queens, New York locations can help you learn more about Restylane fillers.

How does Restylane work?

Restylane works by injecting a natural filler into the skin. This natural filler is found in the skin as hyaluronic acid. Since it is a natural filler and not synthetic or made from animal, there is very little risk in its use and no need for testing prior to usage.

Before a procedure you must call for a consultation with our cosmetic dermatologists to determine if Restylane is for you, or whether you might need a longer lasting filler such as Sculptra, Radiesse, Zyplast, Zyderm, Perlane, Juvederm. All except Juvederm Ultra are longer lasting products and can not be used in as many areas or with as little risk as Restylane. During the consultation you will provide information such as your medical history, background and desired areas of treatment. It can then be determined what areas would work best for you to have Restylane.

Restylane is then injected into the targeted areas and the natural hyaluronic acid substance is absorbed by the body. When it is absorbed, it fills out and provides volume to the areas, which in turn smoothes out wrinkles, fills in folds, and tightens sagging skin. Restylane corrects your signs of aging and reverts them back to when your face was smooth and wrinkle free.

Where can Restylane be used?

Restylane is used on the face and is commonly used as a long lasting treatment. The FDA has approved the use of Restylane for Nasolabial Folds and some areas around the mouth. The other areas of the face that Restylane are frequently used on include:

  • Frown lines
  • Sunken cheeks
  • Angry lines
  • Weak chins
  • Crows feet
  • Fuller lips
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Wrinkles around the mouth
  • Bags and dark circles under the eyes
  • Crows feet

These are just some of the areas with which we use Restylane in our offices.

Restylane Procedure

Since Restylane is injected, results can be seen immediately. The procedure is short-lasting anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the areas being treated. After treatment you can go right back to work without any downtime. Some side effects from Restylane might include: redness around the injected site, slight swelling, some tenderness and pain around the area, or bruising. These can last up to a few days before disappearing. The side effects for Restylane are less than any other filler in our experience. The process usually takes 5 to 20 minutes. It might take longer if there are more areas of treatment.

Restylane has had FDA approval since December 12, 2003 for being the first and only dermal filler made of stable, biodegradable non-animal hyaluronic acid to smooth out wrinkles

Am I a candidate?

If you have wrinkly skin that has signs of aging, and would like to have younger looking skin, then you should try out Restylane. It is required to call to set up a consultation in order to go over with our cosmetic dermatologists what you would need, and if you are a good candidate or not. You may be treated at the time of consultation for your convenience if your doctor agrees. We have locations in Queens, Long Island, NY and Bergen County, NJ.

Restylane can be injected into all skin types, from fair to dark skin. You should come in for a consultation to know if there are any pre-conditions that need to be met beforehand, such as avoiding certain medications which promote bleeding, like aspirin or advil.

Does it hurt?

The type of pain varies among people depending on the sensitivity of their skin. There might be an initial slight pain at the site of injection. After an injection there could be some redness, a little tenderness, mild swelling, or some slight bruising. These effects will disappear after a short period of time. We can lessen the pain by using the new Restylane with a built in anesthetic or by a topical anesthetic, ice, cold air, or other technique.

How much does it cost?

The costs can vary depending on the amount of areas that will be injected. For the best answer, you would need to come in for a consultation and discuss it, for us to know the extent of work that you want done.
