Creases, folds and wrinkles. We refer to them by so many names. To help you decide what type of wrinkles you have–and what treatment may be right for you–we have compiled a handy reference guide to your face.
A Reference Guide to Wrinkles and Treatments
Nasolabial folds– These deep folds are commonly referred to as smile lines. Nasolabial folds can be treated with minimally-invasive treatments, such Radiesse, Sculptra and Restylane. These dermal fillers plump up the wrinkles and can result in a natural-looking appearance.
Marionette lines– Also known as puppet or drool lines, these lines extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin (think or the ventriloquist’s puppet). Depending on the severity and desired outcome, treatment may include a dermal filler such as Perlane or Juvederm, or a facelift.
Crow’s feet– As our body’s production of elastin and collagen decreases, fine lines and wrinkles appear on the sensitive skin surrounding the eyes. Also called character lines, these wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes can be addressed with injectables, such as of the neuromodulators Botox or Dysport. Results may last for up to 6 months.
Worry lines– These forehead wrinkles are the result of furrowing the brow. Also known as glabellar lines, frown lines, and the 11’s, these creases are one of the most common treatment areas for Botox patients.
Perioral lines– Often referred to as smoker’s lines, the lines along the mouth set in due to muscle movement and aging. Depending on the severity of your condition, a treatment regimen of either laser resurfacing or dermal fillers may be recommended.
