Product Spotlight: Thermage
What Is Thermage Non-Invasive Skin Tightening?
Thermage CPT is the gold standard for non-surgical skin tightening. It is a non-invasive, completely safe, non-surgical procedure that does not require injections.
Thermage tightens, firms, and contours your skin through natural contraction and stimulation of collagen.
Advanced Dermatology, P.C. offers Thermage treatments in locations across Bergen County, NJ, Queens, Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn and more.

What Does Thermage Do Exactly?
Thermage CPT uses radiofrequency (RF) energy waves to stimulate the production of new collagen in the skin. This process targets three main objectives: contouring, tightening, and firming.
During the procedure, RF energy is applied to the skin, generating a sensation of heat that patients feel immediately. This stimulation causes the collagen to tighten across three layers of skin: the outer epidermis, the middle dermis, and the innermost subcutaneous layer.
Collagen is present in all skin layers. It is a fat layer that provides skin with structural support and shape. Over time, collagen breaks down due to sun exposure, aging, and genetics, which causes the skin to sag and wrinkle.
Thermage treatment helps:
- Tighten skin
- Firm contours
- Soften wrinkles
- Improve skin texture
- Redefine the jawline and chin
- Correct crepey skin
Unlike treatments that only target the outer layer of skin, which offer short-term results, Thermage penetrates all three layers of the skin using Capacitive Radiofrequency (CRF) technology. This technology heats the layers of skin and stimulates new collagen growth, resulting in immediate improvements in tone and texture.
A single treatment is enough to stimulate existing collagen and encourage new collagen growth. And, once this process begins, improvements can last one to two years.
Typical treatment areas include under the chin, the jawline, jowls, and nasolabial folds. However, it can be used with immediate and noticeable results on other body parts, including the stomach, face, neck, and eyes. Thermage before and after results are noticeable right away!
Who Can Be Treated?
Thermage treatment is not for everyone. Please consult with your doctor to find out if Thermage is right for you.
Thermage is best for those with mild-to-moderate skin laxity and is not suitable for those with unstable diabetes, immunological systems, cardiovascular systems, or neurological diseases (e.g., MS). Women between the ages of 35-60 are usually the best candidates and show the most expected results. If your skin is too loose, the results will not be as drastic.
Many treatments and procedures are specific to skin color. However, Thermage works for all skin types, from light to dark, and can be used on the entire face.
What Is a Typical Treatment Like?
Thermage uses Comfort Pulse Technology, or CPT, to deliver more energy per pulse and ensure patient comfort during the treatment. This method weaves together pulsed radiofrequency (heat) waves with bursts of cool air to help block neural discomfort signals.
Thermage CPT treatment sessions typically begin with the application of cooling air to the treatment areas followed by radiofrequency, encouraging the production of new collagen. Each time Thermage emits its radiofrequency energy, a quick heat sensation will be felt. This signals the tightening of collagen due to the stimulation. Additional cooling is applied to the skin at the end of treatment.
Only certified doctors who have undergone specific training in Thermage administration may perform this treatment. A single treatment session ranges from 20 minutes to two hours, depending on the treatment area. While some individuals may opt for the treatment without any pre-medication, others may request pain relievers from the doctor if they anticipate discomfort.
You will see a visible difference one the eyes, neck, face, and stomach before and after Thermage because treatments are designed to immediately tighten, firm, and smooth the skin. Facial contours will become more defined, enhancing your overall appearance. Enhancements will continue over the following six months.
What Is a Typical Recovery Like?
While your skin may be a little red for a day or two following treatments, there is no downtime—and patients almost always immediately return to their normal daily activities.
You can come in during your lunch break and return to work after.
The procedure requires no special care or follow-up. However, if you have any questions, please contact our offices in Queens, Bergen County, NJ, Long Island, NY and more.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect?
Thermage delivers immediate, visible improvements when comparing the skin before and after treatment. You may also notice gradual skin changes up to six months following treatment.Expect

What’s the Difference Between Thermage vs. Ultherapy?

Moreover, Thermage is effective for treating larger areas of the body, like the stomach, whereas Ultherapy is typically used on smaller, more targeted areas.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cradle Cap
What is Thermage?
Thermage is a dermatological, cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates the skin. It uses a radio frequency to target the dermis layers and promotes collagen growth while bypassing (and thus protecting) the epidermis layer.
What can Thermage treat?
Thermage has been clinically proven to tighten and smooth the skin on the face and body. Since the first device became available in dermatologists offices a decade ago, many patients have used Thermage to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, to tighten sagging skin or loose jowls, and to help contour and define the skin. Thermage can be used to treat wrinkled or sagging skin on the entire face or body.
How does Thermage work?
It creates a younger appearance by using radio waves to penetrate into the dermis layer, tighten collagen and stimulate collagen production. The radio energy heats the skin and stimulates the body’s natural healing response. There are no artificial materials or injections; the results will be a completely natural, more youthful-looking you.
Is Thermage safe? Does it hurt?
Thermage is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that has been FDA approved in the US and CE marked in Europe. It is available in the UK, Switzerland, Germany, and parts of Asia, as well as many other countries. A topical anesthetic cream is applied before the procedure to numb the skin, and for added comfort, the Thermage procedure will be alternated with a cooling cream. Many patients report a heating sensation, and sometimes minor pain, but most are able to tolerate the sensation; otherwise, mild painkillers may be advised by our dermatologists (we are now servicing the Summit & Ridgewood New Jersey areas). General anesthesia is not used.
Will I require recovery time?
Most patients require little to no downtime after a procedure, and resume daily activities immediately after the procedure. Some patients experience some sensitivity, bruising, and swelling after a Thermage treatment, but this often fades quickly as the skin begins to heal and produce new collagen.
How soon will I see results?
Because Thermage works by stimulating the body’s natural healing process, patients may not see an immediate improvement after a procedure. As the body begins to produce new, more elastic collagen, tighter, more youthful skin will be revealed within a few weeks of treatment. These rejuvenating effects will continue to improve up to six months after the procedure.
Is Thermage right for me?
An experienced dermatologist at Advanced Dermatology can help determine whether Thermage is the correct treatment for you; there are locations conveniently located throughout the New York and New Jersey area, including Summit & Ridgewood. Thermage has been shown to be effective on all skin types, dark or fair. It can work on all areas of the body. However, Thermage focuses on addressing slightly different concerns than other treatments; Thermage is mainly for the tightening and rejuvenating of the skin from within. Since it does not touch the outer layer, it is less effective in treating skin conditions such as scarring or spotting.
