As reported in RealSelf last month, model Khloé Kardashian had a serious skin cancer scare recently. She noticed a small bump on her face and assumed it was a pimple or an innocuous lesion. But after 7 months it wasn’t going away, so she had it biopsied by her dermatologist.
It’s worth noting that Khloé never referred to her growth as skin cancer, but rather as a tumor. Because the tumor was on her face, it is entirely possible that the recommendation to remove it was cosmetically motivated. Khloé did reveal that at the age of 19, she had a melanoma on her back surgically removed.
Skin Cancer on Face: Khloe Kardashian Face Tumor Experience
Dermatologist Robert Levine, DO of Advanced Dermatology, PC weighs in on Khloé Kardashian skin cancer scare experience:
“I applaud Khloe for sharing her story to help influence others in a positive way. Skin cancer can often start as “a zit that won’t heal.” A pimple rarely lasts 7 months and her words can hopefully bring awareness to those who hear about her experience.
Therefore, it is important to have regular preventative skin checks by a trained professional. If someone is uncomfortable with this (understandably), most practices, including ours have both male and female providers. At the very least, if you have a sore (or zit) that won’t heal or that is painful, bleeds, or changes in color, shape, or size, do yourself a favor and get it checked out. If caught early, skin cancer is extremely treatable.”
